A small appreciation for quick connections and local fabric shops

Today my family popped up to Brattleboro (just 45 min straight north through glorious tree-covered hills and mountains) to drop my older kiddo at a camp. We stopped for lunch and as we were parking I couldn’t believe my eyes but there in front of me was a shop called Bobbin and Skein. In my head I was like, “can I skip lunch, ditch my family, and go chat up whoever is working in that shop RIGHT NOW?!” I stayed cool on the outside and join the family to order lunch. But as soon as we were all good and satiated, I ducked out fast. And boy was it WORTH IT!

I met the owner, we chatted about her small but incredible fabric (and yarn) offerings, our latest makes, good patterns for beginners, our mutual love (and possible over use) of teal fabric, and that we both think it is funny (in a ha ha way) that Valley Fabrics is next door to a pot shop. Shopping for fabric and being high could pair well :-)

I was too excited to take great photos BUT I bought some lovely jacquard knit and double gauze - both in shades of teal - and left with mutual intentions for us to get together for coffee and more chatting.

I am grateful for folks who are brave and own and operate small businesses that keep life beautiful and surprising.
