Brand-new to machine sewing, or has it been so long that it seems like it? Jazzed about making your own clothes or accessories but want some support starting out?
In the Beginner Sewing Workshops you’ll learn and practice foundational skills of machine sewing by diving right into simple projects (you’ll get to choose from a variety of options). Your creations may be a little wonky at first, but you’ll glow with pride because you made it!
Materials: Bring your own fabric and thread.
Patterns, sewing machines and all other necessary equipment are provided.
Students will learn how to:
Operate a sewing machine confidently
Interpret and follow a pattern
Choose the right fabric for your project
Measure, mark and cut materials
Sew straight-ish seams
-
These classes are for people who are comfortable and independent with a sewing machine and familiar-ish with pattern reading, basic sewing terms and techniques and the use of sewing tools.
In the Sewing Skill Building Workshops you make/alter/mend what you want while receiving individualized support (and cheerleading!) within a small-group class setting.
If you don’t have a project in mind, just reach out for ideas. I love to collaborate :-)
Materials: Bring your own fabric, thread and pattern.
Sewing machines and all other necessary equipment are provided.

If you're tired of commercial patterns that don’t fit your body, or if you’ve been sewing for a while and want to create garments of your own design, this class is for you.
You'll learn how to create a flat paper pattern for tops and skirt (or pants) using your own measurements.
By the end of this course you will have finished pattern foundations which are a great jumping off point for creating tops, dresses and tunics.
These flat paper patterns, known as blocks, are the foundation for creating garment patterns for tops and bottoms that fit you well. Yep! Your very own custom-made sloper patterns unique to your own body.
Skills you will learn:
How to make a custom pattern with your own measurements
Techniques and terminology for pattern development
How to draft a pattern with measurements
How to properly measure yourself
At the end of the class you will have a custom top and skirt (or pants) sloper pattern.
Please note you will not be making a finished garment in the class, but basic sewing skills are helpful.

Art Always and Grove House Sewing Studio are joining forces to bring you this special 4 week fabric design and sewing workshop where you'll leave with a one-of-a-kind, sewn tote! Spend the first two weeks in the Art Always studio designing, creating, and printing your own block stamps onto pre-cut fabric pieces and then head to the Grove House Sewing Studio for weeks 3 and 4 to sew them into a 13"w by 15"h bag with straps!

Looking for some costume help? Drop in for a quick question, or some more complex instruction!
Machines and tools are available, but bring in your own project-specific supplies (fabric, notions, etc.).

Important considerations:
Time is booked in 1-hour increments. Choose as many as you want/need.
There won’t be time for sewing lessons in these clinics. If you need more intense help with a costume reach out for a private lesson.
