And we are back in session
I took a little break in August. I spent a bit of the month visiting my wonderful parents, dear friends, a cherished place of my past, and some dramatic and mesmerizing coastline in California. I then nestled in to the moments with the kids as they spent their last days of summer at home and observed and supported them as they began school. I know I only have so many more years of this cycle of time and decided to give space to this moment and appreciate my privilege of being able to be home for them a bit.
I have also taken some time to sew on my own in the studio and find my flow in the new space. Seeing as I spent over 2 hours at Stonemountain and Daughter when I was in Berkeley, and flew home with at least 15 lbs of fabric, I wanted to get a jump on working with the glorious material I procured. Amidst a few private lessons, I have been making jeans, winter pants, bags for the November Open Studios, and curtains for the studio changing closet.
And today, as I was biking through the crisp September air toward my day of group classes, I was so very excited. There is a certain energy to a group class, and what a lovely group of groups we had today! I love when each new and familiar face walks through the door and gets busy making.
A true highlight of the day was welcoming my first guest teacher, Tilly, into the space and helping her settle in. It was such a joy to watch as she began her pattern drafting class and everyone dove in to the tricky business of measuring bodies. The friendly sounds of chatting, laughing, questioning, wondering, and measuring were what bid me farewell as I lit up my bike for my night ride home. Love this job.
