Classes begin and it its “Me Made May”

Last Sunday was spent bustling around making sure everything was in working order and in it’s right place to welcome my first group of students into the new studio.

My first class was on May 5th, amidst the cozy backdrop sounds of pouring rain, and all went to plan - which is just thrilling.  My students are coming from as far as Chicopee, Springfield, Athol, Ashfield, and just a few blocks away - all with excitement to learn and hone their skills.

Opening the studio in the month of May, which is known to some sewers (especially those addicted to Stonemountain and Daughter) as “Me Made May”, feels like a refreshing kick-start for my personal endeavors as well.

In the process of preparing to open Grove House Sewing Studio I had set aside my actual sewing- but now with gorgeous cutting/work tables (built by my super handy husband) and a well-lit bright studio space, there is nothing holding me back!

View of the cutting/work tables from inside the studio. And check out those cute repurposed under-bed boxes to holding scraps and muslin.

My goals for Me Made May are a pair or two of shorts for my daughter (who is currently wearing last year’s shorts which aren’t that comfortable after recent growth spurts), the Papercut Strata pants, and then a self-patterned flowy maxi dress out of double gauze for my daughter.  In that order.  We shall see how far I get (or if I get side-tracked with new projects along the way).  But for me, dreaming about projects, fabrics, and tricky steps is so much of the fun of sewing.

I’m heading up to Swanson’s fabric tomorrow to check out their latest stash and see if I can score the fabric for my pants and any other doodads for the studio.  (Based on these photos it seems I am in a green phase so I better try and find something in a different color scheme!)

Summer classes sign ups are open and beginning to fill, so if you are planning to join me - don’t hesitate!
